I love doing portraits. It takes me about 20 minutes to draw a person. I can draw from life or from a photograph. I prefer to draw a person from life and an animal from a photograph. I love it when its a good likeness, but the accuracy and the technical quality of the portrait is irrelevant in some cases. I went on a lovely sketching holiday course in 2025 in a chateau at L’Age Baston in the south of France. There the tutor Caroline Johnson started me sketching Quentin Blake style with ink pen and water colour. I also attended an excellent portraiture course at Lee Abbey Christian retreat in North Devon in 2025 taught by Mark and Val Turner who live in Sheffield.
